The best water for your landscape is mother nature's rain. However, her irregular run time creates problems so the next best option is a properly designed and installed irrigation system.

The Nelson Team Inc. is the best company for that installation. We begin by introducing you to our Certified Irrigation Designer who designs a system to specifically meet your needs. Then we send our crew of professionals, lead by a Certified Irrigation Contractor, to install the best components at the highest quality of workmanship. When we are finished, you will have a smile on your face and a long lasting water efficient irrigation system.

Q.Why should I install an irrigation system?

A. Rain and hand watering are at irregular intervals which often results in under or over watering. An irrigation system, when properly designed and programmed, gives uniform watering which is much better for the plant material. It also allows watering during times of owner absence and at the best time of day to eliminate water loss from evaporation.

Q. What are rotor heads and spray heads?

A. Rotor heads pop up and rotate covering large areas. Spray heads pop up and spray water in an area pre-determined by the nozzle installed. Rotor heads and spray heads apply water at greatly different rates therefore they should never be installed on the same station.

Q. What is drip irrigation?

A. Drip irrigation unlike rotor and spray heads applies water directly to the plant root area through emitters installed in drip hose or through individual emitters. Because it applies water only to areas desired, it can save up to 75% over conventional methods.

Q. Where should drip irrigation be used?

A. It is ideal for shrubs, plants, baskets etc. Its advantage besides lower water consumption is it eliminates the problem of over spraying onto buildings, walks, driveways etc. It does not water the weeds or mulch.

Q. How much maintenance do irrigation systems require?

A. Irrigation systems need to be checked for proper operation at spring startup and regularly during the running season. They should be winterized in the fall to avoid freeze damage. Properly designed and installed systems will operate years without major expense. The Nelson Team will perform all irrigation services necessary or train you to do them.

Q. What is head to head coverage?

A. Head to head coverage means the water from each head reaches to the next head for uniformity of application (to avoid dry spots). Without head to head coverage dry spots may appear during times of drought. To avoid dry spots system run times are normally increased thereby using and wasting more water.

Q. What happens when it rains?

A. We install rain sensors on every system we install. These keep the system from running during and shortly after periods of rain.

Q. How often and long should I run my system?

A. We install rain sensors on every system we install. These keep the system from running during and shortly after periods of rain.

Q. How often and long should I run my system?

A. It is desirable for plants and turf to develop deep root systems thereby making them more drought tolerant. To accomplish this, your irrigation system needs to run less frequently while applying larger amounts of water. You should strive to have your system run only one day a week while applying enough water to sustain good plant growth. A competent irrigation professional can help you determine how to set your controller to achieve this.

Q. How can I keep my irrigation water consumption down?

A. There are several devices and practices that will do this:
  1. Install drip irrigation
  2. Install rain sensor
  3. Install soil moisture sensor
  4. 4Install pressure regulator
  5. Install master valve
  6. Install E.T. based controller
Any combination of the above items can cut water consumption up to 75% over a conventional system.
